Type of Program(s): Forest Technician Training Program Courses in technical communications, natural resource management, silviculture, soils and hydrology, resource measurements and related subjects will prepare the student for a four month practical on-the-job training period with a participating forest company.
Entrance Requirements: Prospective students must have completed a grade 12 education , with English 11 or English 050, Algebra 11 or Math 050, and Biology 11 or Biology 050. The student must be approved by both the band and the company.

Delivery Method: 8 months of classroom training at Nicola Valley Institute of Technology in Merrit BC, followed by 4 months practical work experience with a forest company.

Centre for Indigenous Peoples, Nutrition and Environment(CINE)

McGill University
Type of Institution: Independent, multi-disciplinary research and education resource for Indigenous Peoples, created by Canada's Aboriginal leaders. CINE is located on McGill University's Macdonald Campus in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec. CINE was created in response to a need expressed by Aboriginal Peoples for participatory research and education to address their concerns about the integrity of their traditional food systems. Deterioration in the environment has adverse impacts on the health and lifestyles of Indigenous Peoples, in particular nutrition as affected by foo and food traditions.
Type of Program(s): CINE and McGill University have partnership agreements with several colleges attended by Aboriginal students that provide education and training on topics relevant to and requested by participating communities. Community short courses on traditional food and food systems, nutrition, and contaminants have been successfully completed in many communities and regions. Internet-based community short courses are under development. Graduate students at the MSc and PhD levels, supervised by CINE-based professors, have opportunities to explore traditional food systems, acquire community-based research skills, and use state-of-the-art laboratory and computer facilities.

Aboriginal Content: Mission: In concert with Indigenous Peoples, CINE will undertake community-based research and education related to traditional food systems. The empirical knowledge of the environment inherent in Indigenous societies will be incorporated in all its efforts. CINE has an all-Aboriginal Governing Board with representation from Assembly of First Nations, Council of Yukon First Nations, Dene Nation, Inuit Tapirisat of Canada, Métis Nation (NWT), and Mohawk Council of Kahnawake.
