INDIGENOUS PEOPLES' FOREST FORUM

An Indigenous Peoples’ Forest Forum will be held in Québec, Canada, from September 19 to 21, 2003, immediately prior to the XII World Forestry Congress (WFC). This will be an opportunity to discuss forest issues and to voice interests and concerns to a global audience.

Indigenous Peoples, through their institutions and enterprises are major players in the forest sector and are integral to the global discussion on sustainable forest management. Participation at the XII WFC will build greater understanding of the social, cultural and economic needs of Indigenous Peoples which is needed to inform conventional management models and future forest policy.

The special initiatives described below are intended to elevate Indigenous Peoples participation as a fundament element of sustainable forest management.

This satellite event will be organized into thematic sessions and plenaries and will lead to a collective statement to the XII WFC.
